Tracking Trump Administration’s Mediation in Global Conflicts

The Trump Administration Mediation Tracker, part of our expanding Rihla ATLAS initiative, charts how U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration engage in international conflict mediation across both presidential terms. The project aims to capture both a qualitative and quantitative picture of Trump’s mediation efforts, which often departs from traditional U.S. approaches. Rather than relying on established multilateral processes, Trump’s mediation style emphasized direct leadership, transactional bargaining, and high-visibility diplomacy.

As the administration seeks to redefine U.S. foreign policy, mediation is becoming an important stage for advancing political leverage, personal relationships, and economic deals. From headline-making summits to back-channel negotiations, Trump has positioned himself as the central figure in conflict resolution, particularly in contexts where he believed American prestige or strategic advantage could be demonstrated.

This tracker documents the evolution of Trump-era mediation—its cases, patterns, and outcomes—and assesses how this approach has shaped global conflict dynamics, U.S. credibility, and the broader international order.

Trump the Mediator: Continuity and Change Across Two Administrations

The Trump Adminstration has made mediation a centerpiece of its foreign policy architecture in 2025. This trend began in 2019 and has steadily evolved into a more robust and global strategy of advancing U.S. interests and competing globally.
