The Arab Gulf States Mediation Tracker

The Gulf States Mediation Tracker, part of the expanding Rihla ATLAS initiative, maps the Gulf Arab states’ growing role in mediation efforts globally. Gulf states have long played a critical role in mediating conflicts in the Middle East, but over the past several years, they have assumed a larger role in mediating in conflicts globally, including in Syria, Ukraine, India-Pakistan conflict, Sudan, Gaza, Yemen, and more. From quiet back-channel facilitation and humanitarian deals (prisoner exchanges, hostage releases, evacuations) to high-profile ceasefire talks and de-escalation summits, Gulf actors are increasingly shaping outcomes across the Middle East, Africa, and beyond. This tool provides both a qualitative and quantitative picture of that evolution and highlights the gradual institutionalization of Gulf approaches.
